The Moose Jaw Bantam A Warriors fell just short against the Regina Royals in their home opener on Thursday night, losing 5-4 at the Bert Hunt Arena in Hockey Regina action.

Hayden Hudyma had two goals and three points, while Lucas Salkin pitched in with a goal and three points in the loss for the Warriors.

Jacob Michelson also found the back of the net for Moose Jaw on the night.

The Warriors and Royals traded goals in the first period with Salkin and Hudyma scoring for Moose Jaw to make it a 2-2 game after one.

The Royals took the lead in the second period and then opened with back-to-back goals to open the third. Hudyma and Michelson scored over the final eight minutes for the Warriors, but they couldn’t fight all the way back.

Alex Norman took the loss in goal for the Warriors.

Moose Jaw is now 0-2-0 this season. They return to the ice on Sunday in Lumsden.

Coming up on Friday, the Moose Jaw Peewee Mavericks host the Swift Current Ice Cats at the Kinsmen Arena, while the Midget AA Warriors host the Yorkton Terriers at the Red Knight Arena. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m. on both games.
