They gave it everything that they had, but late goals in the second and third periods were too much to overcome for the Moose Jaw Atom AA Warriors.

The Warriors lost 6-3 to the Swift Current Broncos in Game 2 of the South East Minor Hockey League, giving Swift Current a sweep of the best-of-three series.

“They've got a good team, they've got two kids on that team that are hard to stop and we gave it everything we got,” said Warriors head coach Dave Beisal. “We left it all on the line and I’m so proud of each and everyone of those kids, they gave it everything they had.”

The Broncos and Warriors were first and second, respectively, in the regular season standings with Swift Current’s only two losses coming at the hands of Moose Jaw.

Beisal said they showed in this series that they could play with the Broncos, “We've been there all year with them, it's been those one, two-goal games and we just can't seem to get on top of them. Everybody was there, but they just had a bit more than we did,” he said.

Being a team made up of nine and 10-year-olds, the focus throughout the year has been on developing and Beisal said they've seen some incredible growth out of the kids.

“The improvement was exceptional,” he said. “When we played Swift early in the year, they scored 10 goals on us, and the improvement has been unbelievable.

“After the game, I told each and everyone of them to hold their heads high, they've improved so much, this is a learning lesson and we can move onto bigger and better things.”

Brodyn Pladson had a pair of goals in the loss for Moose Jaw, while Carter Hudyma had the other marker for the Warriors.

Swift Current's Derric Dulatre opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, but Pladson answered for Moose Jaw midway through the first to tie the game at 1-1 after one.

Pladson scored just 37 seconds into the second period to put the Warriors in the driver's seat for much of the period, but Parker Rondeau was able to tie the game up at 2-2 with 5:02 to go in the second.

Moose Jaw struck again early in the third as Hudyma scored 3:16 into the frame to put the Warriors back in front. The Broncos were able to level the score against just before the midway point of the third on a goal from Ryder Woods.

The score stayed that way until Dulatre picked up his second of the game with 2:43 to go play, which ended up being the game-winner.

Dulatre and Woods added empty net goals in the final minute to seal the win for Swift Current.
