The Moose Jaw Atom A Red Warriors put together a dominating weekend in Brandon.

The Red Warriors scored 48 goals over four games on their way to capturing the Tournament of Champions title over the weekend, beating the Souris Elks, 10-2, in the 'A' side final.

"The team played very well," said Head Coach Shane Smith. "The big part of the game was defence moving pucks quick up to the forwards and letting the forwards do their thing. A lot of good team play, there was good 100 percent effort from every kid, every shift that they had, so it was good."

The Red Warriors opened the tournament with a 13-0 win over Corydon and then they followed that up with a 12-2 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday.

In their semi-final game on Saturday, Moose Jaw rolled to a 13-4 win over the Hamiota Huskies.

The final was actually a very tight game early, as the Red Warriors sat tied with the Elks at 2-2 after one, but Moose Jaw found their stride as the game went on and scored four goals in the second and four in the third to seal the win.

"The first couple of games went a little easier than we expected, but the final game, we came out strong, got up two, they came back, battled us hard for the first half of the game, then we stepped our game to the next level and took the game over," said Smith.

Carter Hudyma powered Moose Jaw with five goals and six points in the final, while Brodyn Pladson also had a hat trick. Nate Lewko and Austin Smith added a goal and two points in the win.

The final was played at Westoba Place, home of the WHL’s Wheat Kings, and Smith said that made for an exciting experience for the team.

"The boys were talking about it all Saturday night, it was pretty exciting to get the W," said Smith.

It's late in the season for the Red Warriors, Smith added that this win shows the progress that they've made and will also give them some good momentum heading into the stretch run.

"It's very huge, the kids are moving the pucks well right now," he said. "We've got a tough stretch coming up here, starting on Saturday we have seven games in 12 days to finish out our regular season, so this tournament and the way that we played, I hope it carries over to league games."

The Red Warriors sit at 10-4-1 this season in the Hockey Regina League. They return to the ice on Saturday against the Prairie Storm Thunder.
