It's been a dream start over the past two days for the Skylar Ackerman rink out of Moose Jaw.

The team is representing Saskatchewan at the 2018 Canadian Under-18 Women’s Curling Championship and they've put together two dominating wins to open the competition in St. Andrews, N.B.

Saskatchewan won 7-4 over British Columbia on Monday and then followed that up with a 10-2 victory over the Northwest Territories on Tuesday to jump out to a 2-0 start.

"We've been playing really well together as a team, we've got a really good hang of the ice and if we can keep that rolling, we'll have a lot of success in the rest of the competition," said Ackerman.

At the provincial championship last month, the Ackerman rink rolled to a perfect 7-0 record on their way to the title. Ackerman said their early success at nationals stems from that roll they were on in Swift Current.

"We started out the same way that we left off and we're still improving each and every game, so hopefully we can keep that going," said Ackerman.

After picking up a pair of three-enders in their opening win on Monday, Saskatchewan was able to put some big ends together again to secure the win on Tuesday.

Saskatchewan scored three in the second to jump out in front of the Northwest Territories and then they added a deuce in the fifth and finished off the win with four in the seventh.

"We've had a lot of success with our rock position and the girls have been setting me up good, so I've had some simple shots for big ends, so it's good," said Ackerman.

The team, which also features Madison Johnson at third, Chantel Hoag at second and Samantha McLaren as the lead, is playing in its national championship.

Ackerman said there was some nerves heading into their opening game, but they've done a good job of staying focused on the task at hand.

"We've been preparing for our games the same way that we always have and that's helping to keep us relaxed and not nervous before our games and we're just having a lot of fun and enjoying the experience, which is helping a lot too,” she said.

While they're doing their best to stay focused, Ackerman said the atmosphere at a national championship is nothing like anything that they've faced before.

"It's definitely different, especially in the arena, people are waving cowbells and screaming at you, but it's really fun," she said. "The atmosphere does help keep us in the moment a little more and keeps us more loose."

The Team Saskatchewan rink will be back on the ice for a pair of games on Wednesday as the round robin continues. They face 2-0 Ontario in the morning draw at 7 a.m. and then go up against Prince Edward Island in the afternoon at 3 p.m.

The round robin closes on Thursday with Saskatchewan battling Yukon and New Brunswick.
