Shirley Vilness

1934-2017

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Vilness on September 16, 2017, in Moose Jaw. Shirley was born on November 29, 1934 in Regina, SK. Shirley and Herb Vilness have been married since September 20th, 1952.

“Mom’s passion was baking Cinnamon Buns for Randy and Nanaimo Bars for Brenda. She loved having family dinners where she got to make everyone’s favorites. She enjoyed gardening, pickling, and making jam with the fruit from her own garden. Mom had the best sense of humour and it came out especially in the heat of a good card game with her children, grandchildren and in-laws.She was a staunch Blue Jays fan and tried to never miss a game. Mom would do anything for her children and grandchildren and as time went on her great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by Herb, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.”

Shirley is predeceased by her parents George and Elsie (nee. Hoyes) Gurney; siblings Ken (Lavina), Gladys (Jack), Jean, George Jr. (Jean), and Eileen (Ron); brothers-in-law Doug Ram, Fred Kozak and George McCallum; as well as son-in-law Brian Tait. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Herb; her son Kim and Trudy (Hanna); grandchildren, Chris, Brett, Samantha and Ryan; son Boyd and Linda(Hall); grandchildren, Donald, Trevor, and William; son Richard; daughter Brenda Tait; grandchildren Joseph, Timothy and Charla; her son Randy and Lynn (Genie); daughter Tania and Todd; son Wesley and Carmen (Beaulien); grandchildren David, Angie, Ricky and Kenny; as well as numerous great grandchildren, siblings, and nieces and nephews. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK S4P 2R3).
