TORRIE

It is with great sadness that the family of James “Jim” Torrie, aged 87 years, announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on Friday, April 6th, 2018 at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, with family by his side.  Jim was born in Brechin, Scotland on March 13th, 1931.  He married Violet Crane on June 5th, 1954 in Scotland and arrived in Canada on June 24th, 1954.  They farmed in Riverhurst area until 1989 when they moved into Riverhurst, SK.  He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Jean; daughter, Moira; and grandchildren, BobbiLee and Gregory.  Jim leaves to mourn, his wife of 63 years, Violet; daughters: Marjorie (Dennis), Brenda (Hugh), and Glenda (Graham); grandchildren: Torrylee (Greg), Troy (Melissa), Twyla (Bradley), Carla (Kevin), Craig (Andrea), Cara (Anthony), Austin (Tamara), Jared, Dylan (Lauren), and Brandon (Amanda); great-grandchildren: Emily, Madison, Jamilyn, Kyle, Chace, Tyson (Caitlyn), Randy, Andrew, Riley, Kaden, Mason, Kaitlin, Carter, Landen, Ryder, Tinley, and McKinley.  Jim served on many boards: Central Butte Hospital, Councillor RM of Enfield #194, Leader of Riverhurst 4H, Rec Board, Palliser Park Board, Riverhurst Water Users, and Swift Current Frontier Days.  Jim and Violet ran a dairy farm for many years, delivering milk to residents of the Village of Riverhurst, to the girl’s school parties, and shipping cream to Moose Jaw and later Swift Current.  He ran Shellstone Disposal for several years.  He also worked for Spudwick and Hi-Gen Potatoes in Broderick, SK.  Jim enjoyed talking to many people and enjoyed driving his semi.  Special thanks to the Doctors and medical staff of the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, and the New Horizons Clinic for the care our dad received.  A Memorial Tea will be held on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Riverhurst Community Hall.  A private family interment will take place at Riverhurst Cemetery.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jim’s name may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, 917A Albert St, Regina, SK S4R 2P6 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
