Stuart James Bozyk

July 6, 1944 – November 17, 2021

Stu passed away after a brief illness. Born in England he immigrated to Canada with his parents just after WWII and eventually settled in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. After finding the love of his life Diane Merchel – Diney – they moved to Nova Scotia where he took his training in Goldsmithing. Returning to Moose Jaw he opened a Goldsmith shop for a few years then branched out with Brewsters Craft Beer store, eventually returning to Goldsmithing with a shop on Main Street where he worked until his retirement. No – he didn’t repair watches.  Over the years he made wedding rings and other jewelry for several members of the family. We will now look upon them with great fondness.  Stu was a bon vivant. He enjoyed the good life and lived it large. Many happy times were spent at the house in Marquis on the back patio enjoying his slow cooked ribs and pulled pork or smoking in Blinkers Clubhouse. He enjoyed the finer wines and loved to sample a variety of  beer, both accompanied by stinky cheeses and other interesting foods he could find in out of the way places when he traveled to the big city. He reveled in entertaining you with a special multi-course dinner complete with a menu of the day. His kitchen was fondly known to family  and friends as Chez Bobo. Starting as a teenager he played drums; first with the Moose Jaw Pipe Band, then a local jazz group and eventually being a regular session player at CopperDogStudios in Winnipeg with his brother-in-law Kris. (cd’s for sale!) He wrote a variety of songs from smooth jazzy tunes to straight out crash and bang with titles like The Bastile, Burger and a Beer, Crawl Across The Floor For You and Don’t You Go Downtown Man – Without Your Rubber Goods .  He was a master of creative ad libs with his tunes and had us in hysterics many a time. Christmas was always a time to watch him compete with the little nieces when Stu was the one who received the pig that farted or the Pee Wee Herman doll. Then there was the time he turned the girls acrobat doll into an exotic dancer – good thing the girls had gone to bed. Ah, a Bozyk Christmas. He had a love of camping, fishing and motorcycles. He and Diney travelled many summer miles exploring  around the back road Prairie provinces.  And he spoke highly of The Rangers – basically a bunch of guys who went camping and fishing for a week without their women and didn’t bath or shave.  In his later years and especially over the last years dealing with COVID lockdown, Stu became an avid fan of football, baseball and hockey and daytime TV. The summers were spent on the back patio watching his garden grow….especially now that it is legal.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and especially the guys from The Corner of Knowledge –  aka The Cornerstone Pub on Main Street. Who will now solve the world’s problems? Left behind to remember the good times are his wife Diane, brother Kevin, sister Colleen (Kris), sister in law Linda (Jon), brother in law Bill (Laura), nephews  Jim, Lex and Ronald, nieces Violet, Lila, Amy, Kate and Maggie, and his cats Cheech and Chong, along with his many friends.  He marched to the beat of a different drummer. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In living memory of Stuart, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Ltd.
