It's a question many of us have to take a moment to answer these days. It's an answer we used to come up with immediately: "What's your phone number?"
I got talking about this on the weekend when an old friend of mine told me she tried to call me but my number's out of service. I told her I don't have a land line anymore. Many of us don't BUT, we can remember our old numbers and all the numbers we used to call. She still has a land line. I remember her number. She and her husband laughed when I recited it.
Yes, I can remember many of the numbers I used to call when I was a kid. In fact, some of their parents would still answer if I were to call.
You see, first we got call display and speed dial and then we got cellular telephones. We just tap on names now and the telephone does the dialing, right?
I kinda miss those days when we had to memorize phone numbers and the days before "call display." It was an adventure when the phone rang. I remember my sisters racing to the phone every time. It was on the wall in the kitchen. It was a rotary dial unit.
Ya, maybe I don't "really" miss those days.
