I saw some kids out playing baseball yesterday.  It always makes me happy to see that because it always takes me back to my days playing Little League.

When I was a kid we played in our own neighbourhoods and then competed with the others in the playoffs.  The North Hill kids played in the National League, the boys on East End were in the American League and on South HIll it was the Park Hill League.

It made for some heated rivalries.  I liked that.

I had some good times and some tough times on those ball diamonds.  What I didn't know at the time is that I was learning how to compete - how to win and how to lose.  I was learning to coordinate and communicate.  I was developing my hand-eye coordination and other skills I would use in the future.

I also didn't realize I was making lifelong friends.  It's true.  I am still in touch with a number of the boys I played Little League with and I still stop and talk to a couple of my coaches.
