So, it had been years, many years, since I had gone ice fishing. I have friends who go all the time. I have an open invitation to join any time I want to go. I wanted to go and I did.
It was two weeks ago. We fished for hours. 7 hours. I caught one fish - a perch. It was slightly larger than the minnow I was using for bait. I felt defeated. I had to go back.
So, I arranged to go again. It was this past weekend. We fished for an hour or so before my friend, seated right beside me, brought in a 4 pound walleye. Oh, I was excited. It gave me hope. And then, they started biting. We caught dozens and dozens of fish. We hooked 60 or 70 perch and that one walleye. We kept a few. They were delicious.
What a thrill it is to feel that tug on the line and bring that fish up out of the lake. And, there's something special, something so satisfying about getting your own lunch from Mother Nature.
I know, now you anglers want to know WHERE we caught all those fish.
Ya, that's not gonna happen! I'm not telling you.
