9th Avenue North West - Moose Jaw. A lot of locals are talking about this major thoroughfare these days. It's a main artery for many, linking Moose Jaw's north hill and west end to the rest of the city. A water main break has 9th closed to traffic between Saskatchewan and Francis streets and that has a major impact on vehicular traffic.
If you've been around for awhile you'll remember back before the 9th Avenue Bridge was built and Thatcher Drive had yet to come into play. 9th was busy and handled the truck traffic but it was still a neighbourhood street. People could park along 9th and traffic moved in single file. There were no traffic lights where 9th intersects with Saskatchewan and Grace streets.
And, I remember people in that neighbourhood wondering if building the bridge on 9th might be short-sighted. Some wondered if building the bridge further west might not be a better idea.
Close to five decades later, you'll find many who live on the north west and south west sides of the city who will agree with those people today.
