I saw a story about him last year at this time. Then, the other day, I saw him again.
Richard Overton of Austin, Texas was in the news last year when he reached the age of 111. Last week, he turned 112. He's the oldest man in the USA.
He was in the army in World War II and then spent the rest of his working career in furniture stores and spent some time with the state government.
And what are his secrets to longevity? He doesn't really know. He simply says, "Just keep living. Don't die."
It's interesting to note, Richard needs caregivers around the clock these days to help him move around but he still lives life. He drinks a whiskey with Coca Cola and he smokes several cigars every day.
He drinks lots of coffee - three sugars in each cup. He has waffles, pancakes or cinnamon rolls for breakfast. He likes ice cream with peach cobbler and he enjoys a Dr. Pepper - every day. And, he's 112 years old.
It reminds me of the guy who said, "Eat well, sleep well, exercise and drink plenty of water every day...and you'll die anyway."
