The City of Moose Jaw has decided on the 2017 Tree of Significance!  City Hall issued a news release explaining:

As part of National Forest Week, today serves as a celebration for all Canadians to appreciate the great benefits that trees provide us - clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting with nature.

The Moose Jaw Parks & Recreation Department is proud to take time on National Tree Day to announce the winning entry in our “Tree of Significance” program.

“This program is designed to encourage residents to take notice of and appreciate our Urban Forest,” explained Parks Gardener, Sarah Regent. “It is also a chance to bring awareness to a tree with special significance in our community.”

The 2017 Tree of Significance winner is a Manitoba Maple located in the heart of the vegetable patch of the Mosaic Community Food Farm in Churchill Park. This tree is significant because it serves as a gathering place, especially for volunteers at the Food Farm, and has a very unique form which allows it to act as a living bench.
