Kenny Shields is one of the jewels in the crown of Canadian music and this past weekend a permanent tribute to him was erected in his hometown.

Nokomis is now the site of two signs saluting the lead singer of the band Streetheart, one at the north entrance to town and the other on the south side.  These are in addition to display dedicated to Shields in the local museum and a painting of him in the local rink.

Shields was born in Nokomis October 24th, 1947.  He passed away in Winnipeg July 21st, 2017 at the age of 69.

Among the biggest songs in the career of Shields and the band Streetheart are "Here Comes the Night", "What Kind of Love is This" and their cover of the Rolling Stones song "Under My Thumb".

Shields and Streetheart won the 1980 Juno Award for "Most Promising Group of the Year".
