A local family continues to grieve the loss of their loved one and family friends are reaching out for support.

In August of this year, 21-year-old Tyrus Ayerst of Moose Jaw was murdered as a result of a robbery gone wrong. A close family friend, Jade Fisher and her mother Christine have known Tyrus and his family for over two decades and were in shock when they received the news.

"There's a constant weight on my chest, I feel empty and sick inside and I can't even begin to imagine what Ty's mom, sisters and all the other close family are going through," Jade Fisher described.

"I've known Ty my whole life and his family is my family, and family takes care of each other. So, of course, we wanted to do anything and everything possible to help ease their minds during these times."

A steak night is planned for Saturday, September 1st from 5:30 - 7:00 at the Eagles club in Moose Jaw. All ages are welcome and tickets are $20 each and include a steak, potato and Caesar salad along with plenty of raffles and silent auctions courtesy of local businesses. Prizes range in value from a free makeover to oil changes and even a 5-hour tattoo session.

"The steak night fundraiser was put together to help the family with the cost of the funeral and to help them over the next days and months to follow as grief knows no date," Fisher explained.

"We thank everyone who has helped us and those who have shown support Tyrus was the most bright and caring guy that so many of us got the luxury of having him in our lives. May he rest in peace, but his legacy live on forever."

Tickets can be purchased by calling Jade at (306) 513-7731 or Christine at (306) 513-7003.

An additional fundraiser was held prior to the funeral. The Shop in MJ managed to create 49 hoodies in less than 36 hours for those attending the service. The hoodies included his favourite saying along with a picture of Tyrus. All donations went to the Ayerst family. (Photo courtesy of Jade Fisher)
