After what has been a very mild winter so far, temperatures and snowfall are expected to make their presence known in Saskatchewan.

Temperatures had been way above average for the entirety of November and half of December with few exceptions, to the point of nearly breaking heat records.
Now, winter will be coming in more than just name.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Terri Lang says that the biggest won't be the snow coming down, but instead how it's delivered to us.
"Looks like the range is maybe 3-5 centimetres worth of snow, think more problematic is the wind, it'll be pretty gusty, probably 30-40, gusting 50-60 kilometres an hour, so combine that with snow and you'll probably get some localized blowing and drifting snow."

That snow will be followed by plummeting temperatures, with the overnight breaking the -20 mark, and the daytime temperatures not being too far from that.
The cold that's coming in will make sure any snow we get will stick around, unlike earlier winter precipitation.

"Especially when we have the colder temperatures, we often don't get a lot of snow with them, so just sort of a few centimetres for each of the systems," said Lang, "What's noteworthy though is the temperature is definitely taking a nosedive. been fairly spoiled for most of November and half of December, it's certainly going to feel more winter-like."

That temperature change may come as a shock to many due to the warmer weather we've seen so far.
"It's actually going to start feeling below-average for this time of year, but keep in mind there's always a big range of temperatures that can happen, but certainly it's going to feel a lot colder than it has been," said Lang, "Just because we've been spoiled by the milder weather."
