While girls in football are nothing new in Weyburn, one girl recently became the "first and only female" to be awarded MVP in the Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football league.

Weyburn's Ella Schenher, who plays running back for the Weyburn Falcons, was announced as this year's U14 Offensive MVP last week.

According to the announcement, Schenher "does it all. She plays quarterback, she plays running back, she plays receiver, she kicks, she punts...I'm not sure there is anything she can't do."

The awards are back for the first time in several years and Schenher is the first female to win and only the second Weyburn player to receive one of these awards.

Other MVP candidates included Max Vennard (U14 Defensive), Caleb Duhamel (U12 Offensive), and Corbin Dyck (U12 Defensive).

Moose Jaw Lions Linebacker, Lucas Lind walked away with the U12 Division's Defensive MVP. Lind's announcement stated that "he is an absolute tackling machine on the field and his football IQ is through the roof! Remember this name because he will be one of the best footballers in this province for years to come."
