West Nile Virus Expected in Days

West Nile Virus is expected to show up in the Moose Jaw area in the next few days.

Maybe not in humans but in mosquitoes as the second generation of the pest that carries the virus begins to emerge from the water were it was hatched.

5 Hills Health Region Medical Health Officer Dr. Mark Vooght says the threat is imminent. "Manitoba has had at least one positive pool in the last few weeks and we could see that pretty soon. Its hit and miss kind of like finding a needle in a haystack. We might be looking at a lot of mosquitoes but we might not be looking at an infected pool. Its quite possible that in the next few days that a case or two of West Nile Virus may rear its head."

With that in mind, Dr. Vooght says bug spray should be a main component of our long weekend plans.
