The Moose Jaw Warriors earned their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon as they ventured into Regina, picked up two goals in the first period and held on for a 2-1 win over the Pats at the Brandt Centre.

20-year-old forward Tristin Langan scored both goals for the Warriors, while overage goalie Brodan Salmond turned away 31 shots in the victory.

After Saturday night's disappointing loss to Prince Albert, the Warriors responded right from the opening face-off against the Pats.

The Warriors built from a strong opening shift and they were able to get on the board 8:15 into the game when Tristan Langan buried a rebound off Pats goalie Max Paddock's mask and in.

Langan struck again for the Warriors later in the first when he tipped in a Josh Brook point shot for a five-on-three goal to make it 2-0 for Moose Jaw after 20 minutes.

The second period started slowly for both teams as the pace ground down with sloppy play in the neutral zone.

The Pats were able to capitalize on a Warriors turnover in the defensive zone and 18-year-old forward Koby Morrisseau fired a shot over the glove of goalie Brodan Salmond to cut Moose Jaw’s lead down to one.

The Warriors got stronger as the period went on and generated some good scoring chances over the second half of the second, but they couldn't push the puck past Paddock for insurance heading into the third period.

In the third period, the Pats outshot the Warriors, 15-7, but Moose Jaw didn’t break and held on for their first win of the season.

Moose Jaw was 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill in the win.

The Warriors are now off until the weekend when they’ll take on a pair of division rivals. On Friday, the Brandon Wheat Kings come to town and then on Saturday, the Swift Current Broncos will make their first visit of the season to Mosaic Place.
