Kids within Moose Jaw will be able to meet their heroes and see the vehicles or machines they operate, at the Moose Jaw Early Years Family Resource Centre's first-ever “Touch A Truck” event.

The event will be held on Sept. 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre and is free for families with children 0-8 years old.

“It is just a great way to get families out and interact with the trucks and the different vehicles we’ll have on-site and also the people that drive them,” says Wanda Peakman, Moose Jaw Early Family and Resource Centre Coordinator.

“Maybe hear a siren, touch a button, sit in the seat and get really up close with the vehicle,” adds Peakman.

Children and parents will be able to experience a variety of different types of trucks and machines.

“The firetruck will be there, the Zamboni will be there, we have a skid-steer and an articulating rock truck, those are just a few of the ones that we’ll be having out for sure.”

The display will be set up on the 1st Ave NW side of the Moose Jaw Events Centre along with some vehicles in the Moose Jaw Curling Centre, and all children will need to be accompanied by an adult parent or caregiver. A concession will be available for those attending that will offer food and drinks.

The event is being put on in partnership with the Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce, Literacy Network Moose Jaw, OVG 360, and the Moose Jaw Public Library. Craft tables will be set up as well to entertain the kids by some of the events partners.

“The Early Year’s Family Resource Centre, and the Moose Jaw Public Library will all have a table set up. I know for us at the Early Year’s we’re going to have a little bit of Play-Doh, and some construction trucks with rocks and wood – another hands-on experience on a smaller scale for the kids.”

The Early Year’s will also be giving away some books and kids can enter to win a toy dump truck.

Nearing the end of the event there will be a sensory-sensitive time from 2:30-3:00 p.m., where the sirens, horns, and lights will all be turned off to allow for more of a quieter time for parents and kids.
