Moose Jaw Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger has announced a trade with the Edmonton Oil Kings to acquire 20-year-old defenceman Logan Dowhaniuk.

In return for the WHL champion, the Warriors are sending 18-year-old forward Nathan Pilling and a third round selection in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.

“He fits in our lineup great,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said. “He’s going to be a top-four defenceman for us and he’ll fill the void that Cole Jordan’s injury left us with.”

Dowhaniuk has played 207 career WHL games, all with the Oil Kings, collecting 17 goals and 82 points.

The Sherwood Park, AB product has posted one goal and nine points in 23 games this season.

“He’s a two-way defenceman, he can add some offence, but he’s a really good defender and that’s something we wanted to address,” Ripplinger said.

Last season during the Oil Kings’ championship run, he posted three goals and 11 points in 19 playoff games.

“He’s played a lot of playoff games, won a league championship, he’s coming from a winning culture and we expect him to come in here and be a leader,” Ripplinger said.

“His experience is going to help us down the stretch, whether we’re fighting for playoff positioning or when it comes down to the playoffs, he’ll be there to help our guys, calm the nerves.”

Dowhaniuk was an assistant captain with the Oil Kings this season.

Pilling joined the Warriors as a listed player and suited up in 77 games over the past two seasons. He had 12 goals and 24 points in his time with the Warriors.

“When you give up a quality player and a quality person, that’s not easy to do, but to get the deal done, he was a player that they had asked about,” Ripplinger said.

Dowhaniuk is expected to make his Warriors’ debut on Friday when Moose Jaw hosts the Calgary Hitmen for Teddy Bear & Toque Toss Night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
