Now is a good time for farmers to evaluate their forage inventories for the spring grazing season.

Provincial Forage Conversion Specialist Andre Bonneau says soon farmers should be able to figure out if they have enough forages to get them through the spring, "So basically you look at your inventory and will it hold up and if it doesn't hold up then you have to start thinking about do I need more forage acres, do I need to maybe look at annual forage for a change or sending some cows somewhere else to graze else where."

Bonneau adds there are some slight differences between tame and native grass, "Native grasses for the most part are generally low cost, long term type grasses.  Tame grasses for the most part, need fertility, need a little be of special care."

Bonneau adds those on reclamation land, or land in poor condition, should look at a long-term forage solution.
