Brian Swanson has filed his nomination papers and will run for re-election to council in the upcoming civic election.

He ended the speculation Thursday morning when he filed his nomination papers for a seat on city council in the upcoming civic election. City Councillor Brian Swanson is looking to retain his spot in Council Chambers.

There has been a lot of speculation that Swanson would run for Mayor. So we asked him. "No, not really. I tried that once." More specifically, it was 1994 when Swanson ran unsuccessfully for the mayor's chair.

When it comes to the years ahead Swanson says he wants to continue working on the major projects that lie before us. "There are several projects that are out there. I know that the hospital is one that I want to work towards. Right now we've made a commitment to that and there is so much inflation when it comes to construction costs so you just want to make sure you do that right. There's sewage treatment plant that the government has ordered us to do and then we have all of these other demands on money and I would still like to fix the roads better than we are."

When it comes to what has emerged as the main election issues, Swanson says he's not against the multiplex project, he just looks at it as a long-term project. "I'm saying there's a short term solution, we've upgraded the Civic Centre with a few things left to be done. Then there's a long term solution that the whole community can get behind and that is a true winter sports facility for the community but I don't see it being done in the next three years."
