A five-run seventh inning helped propel the Moose Jaw Miller Express to a 7-1 win on Wednesday night over the Weyburn Beavers, ending their seven-game losing streak.

With the win, the Millers move to 21-15 on the season and extend their lead in the Western Canadian Baseball League’s East Division to one game. Moose Jaw will have Thursday off and will continue their four-game road trip on Friday against the Beavers.

It’s been a whirlwind week for Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Denton Mateychuk. Just five days after being drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, Mateychuk has now signed a three-year entry-level contract with the pro club.

In Minor Baseball...The 18U AAA Canucks dropped both their games against the Saskatoon Cubs on Wednesday night. The 18U AAs dropped their game on Wednesday in Regina. And the 15U AAAs were 15-5 winners over the Regina Wolfpack on Wednesday night.

Moose Jaw Minor Girls Fastball on Wednesday night saw the U11 Vipers take down the Fury 16-10 in semi-final action. The other semi-final saw the Magic hold on for the 14-13 win, both teams advance to the U11 finals on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Diamond 3.

In the U15 final, it was the first place Blazers doubling up the Havoc 8-4, to be crowned the 2022 U15 league champions.

The U17/U19 Moose Jaw Minor Girls Fastball finals will take place on Thursday night between the Sliders and the Invaders.

Four Moose Jaw 14U lacrosse players are headed to Langley, BC, for Lacrosse Canada's Minor Box Lacrosse National Championships on August 10-15, as part of Team Saskatchewan. Brodyn Pladson, Hayden Nidesh, Kashton Smith, and Ryder Gilroy will be taking part in the event. 

Local golfer Chris Knoop, outta the Hillcrest Club, with a solid round on day two at the Sask Golf Mid-Amateur in Prince Albert.  Knoop is 3 over after two rounds and just 5 strokes off the pace - set by Prince Albert's Danny Klughart who's playing on his home course - The Cooke Municipal.

John Schneider is 1-0 as Blue Jays manager.  The Jays were 8-2 winners over the Phillies on Wednesday night. Game three of the four-game series goes Thursday at the Rogers Centre.

In Thursday night CFL action has the Edmonton Elks in Montreal to play the Alouettes.
