The Moose Jaw Miller Express are into the home stretch of the regular season with just over two weeks of games left to go.

As the Millers head into the drive for the playoffs, they've received a big boost with the addition of outfielder Ty Schindel, who was a key member of last year's squad.

The Victoria, B.C. product joined the Millers last weekend and he's made an immediate impact.

"It's good to be back up here, I've got a lot of family here, so it's nice to see them and it's good to be playing ball again, just shaking some rust off and should be good to go," said Schindel.

Schindel took a few months off from ball after his college season wrapped up, but was able to make it to Moose Jaw just in time for the final month of the regular season.

In his first two games, Schindel collected a pair of hits, scored two runs, stole a base and drove in a run.

He said he hopes to get back into the swing of things quickly.

"Just playing everyday you get back into the groove," said Schindel. "Just getting my at-bats in and just getting some reads in the outfield, that's the big thing, so just looking forward to helping out."

Schindel is coming off a strong sophomore season with San Diego Christian College. He hit .300 in 45 games with nine doubles, four home runs and 27 RBI for a .904 OPS. He also made just one error in the field.

"We were pretty young, so our team season we didn't do that well, but I had a good individual season and I'm happy with my stats and happy to come up here, keep working on my game and help the team," said Schindel, who posted a .302 average with 11 extra base hits in 36 games last season for the Millers.

The addition of Schindel gives the Millers a formidable group in the outfield  as he joins up with Eric Marriott, Alex Hendra-Brown and Brooks Benson.

Moose Jaw sits third in the Western Major Baseball League’s Eastern Division with a 17-13 record.

"I just want to help the boys try to get some wins, it's a good time to come in, we're hot right now and it's time to do some damage," said Schindel.

"Everyone is super welcoming and it's a good group of guys, so it's a bunch of good ball players and good dudes all-round."

In addition to Schindel, the Millers' bullpen has also received a shot in the arm recently with six-foot-seven closer Travis Edgar, along with righty Tannar Galey and lefty Michael Mommersteeg, joining the team.

The Millers had their game against the Weyburn Beavers on Tuesday night postponed due to the storm that rolled through the Friendly City. It will be made up at a later date.

Moose Jaw travels to Swift Current on Wednesday night for another meeting with the 57s. The Millers beat Swift Current in two out of three games last week. First pitch is at 7 p.m. from Mitchell Field.
