Several communities turn their backs to the multiplex project as a way to protest school closures in their areas.

You can bet this is a curve ball people around here didn't really expect.

Many of the folks in our region have some hard feelings for us here in Moose Jaw. Some because of all the talk about school closures. So, two local towns, two villages and four Rural Municipalities as well as Rockglen town council have decided not to support Moose Jaw's multiplex application to the province's Building Communities Program.

That's going to cost us money because under the formula we can get per capita funding from neighboring municipalities if they support us.

Mayor Dale McBain is not the happiest man in town because of the development. "I think we are a little disappointed that some communities chose not to support the multiplex project because we really view that as a regional project and we view the multiplex project as providing benefit to citizens in communities surrounding Moose Jaw."

But on the other hand a whole host of communities support the project because they realize what it could do for the region by bringing in events like concerts and trade shows, not to mention the boost to local sports.

Under the grant application we can receive 50 dollars for every person in and around Moose Jaw but rural communities must pledge their support.
