What looked like a bad night early on turned into a tight game late for the Moose Jaw Regals on Wednesday night.

The Regals made a late charge, but ended up falling short in a 16-11 loss to the Regina Reds at Ross Wells Park.

"It started off kind of slow, but we were able to battle back and get some runs to make it close in the end," said Regals catcher Jordan Logan, who finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in the loss.

Moose Jaw had been held to just three hits and trailed 7-1 after the third inning, but they added on two more runs in the fourth and started to find some life.

"We got a few key hits in the fourth, pulled things together to get some runs and that’s what started us on that run," said Logan, who drove in runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

The Regals would pick up another run in the fifth and then they exploded in the sixth, plating six runs in the frame, including two off a triple from Logan, to cut the Reds' lead down to 16-10.

Xyrus Smith drove in a run in the seventh inning, but Moose Jaw stranded runners on second and third to end the game.

Dawson Kurz got the start for Moose Jaw and allowed four runs on three hits and five walks over two innings.

Kyle Wilson came on for the next two innings and surrendered five runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out one.

Kurtis MacDonald gave up seven runs on three hits and four walks in his two innings of work, while Chris Cooper finished off the game for Moose Jaw, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

The Regals are moving closer to the end of the regular season and Logan feels the team is trending in the right direction.

"We're getting a little better, we're building up towards provincials, that's what the end goal is, to go to provincials, compete and hopefully win, so that's what we're working for," said Logan.

The Regals are back on the field for a doubleheader against the Regina Angels on Saturday at Ross Wells Park.

At the plate, Tyler Lorenz finished 1-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored, while Jordison helped out his own cause by going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Ryan Zerff was 2-for-4 with three runs scored out of the lead-off spot, while Quincy Johnson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as the Canucks’ top-five hitters in the lineup combined to 9-for-19 in the win.
