In a recent release, Saskatchewan RCMP are alerting the public of a text message scam being reported in the province.

The victims reported receiving a text message claiming to be from an escort company, accusing the receiver of owing money for services.  This continues with demands of payment, and threats of harm on the victim or their family if money isn't sent.

Graphic images of assaults and homicides have been sent along with the texts.

Residents are advised to be cautious of any unsolicited texts, and are reminded to never send personal or sensitive information to the requestor, even if it sounds urgent.

If you or a family member have been contacted by a scammer, report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre — even if you didn't give them any money (antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/report-signalez-eng.htm or 1-888-495-8501).

If you or a family member did lose money as a result of fraud, please contact your local police as well as the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/report-signalez-eng.htm or 1-888-495-8501).
