The Canadian Wheat Board is hoping the federal government will maintain its position on the single desk at the World Trade Organization. Trade talks are set to resume on Monday in Geneva. CWB Chair Larry Hill says they want to see the government continue with the same approach used in earlier discussions.

Until now the Conservatives have argued the fate of the CWB should be decided in Canada, and not by competitors in the U.S. and European Union. Hill feels the CWB is being singled out by the current text as there is an exemption for the only other single desk system - that being ZESPRI, a kiwi-fruit trading organization from New Zealand. The current text would effectively eliminate the single desk powers of the Wheat Board.
