Moose Jaw Police Chief Terry Coleman talks with us about the convicted pedophile that was living in our city for a week and how police handled the situation.

Moose Jaw Police Chief Terry Coleman is reacting today to the story everyone in our city is talking about.

Convicted child molester David Caza was in our community last week. He left town after finding out police had applied for a public disclosure to his whereabouts.

The Chief wants us to know his police service did everything they could. "We received a phone call from Kamloops RCMP on Wednesday, the 6th of September. He had been out there for a while and they told us he was on his way, or leaving shortly to come to Moose Jaw. He did indeed arrive on a bus at the bus depot here in Moose Jaw at 11pm on the evening of the 7th of September and we were there. Two of our investigators were there waiting for him and met him on the bus. They had a conversation with him and explained the rules and the expected behavior of him while he was here."

The Chief also says his officer informed people in the neighbourhood where Caza was staying and, they had the wheels in motion for a court ordered public disclosure. "On the Thursday the 14th of September, investigators had met with him and explained that they had applied for this public disclosure and that they would also be applying for a section 810 under the Criminal Code which would place some fairly severe restrictions on him. He decided that Moose Jaw wasn’t a very hospitable place and as a result of the conversation with out investigators decided that he was going to leave town. He was moving back to Kamloops, British Columbia he said and on Friday morning, the 15th of September at 7:45am we made sure he got on the bus and he left town and the RCMP confirmed to us hen he arrived in Kamloops."

Caza has a long criminal record that includes crimes against young boys.
