The Five Hills Health Region, the Moose Jaw Police Service, as well as numerous government and community agencies team up to help local residents with a four pillar approach to substance abuse.

Prevention, harm reduction, a healing continuum, and community justice. Those are the four pillars of a new integrated substance abuse strategy for Moose Jaw and the South Central Region of the province.

The strategy was unveiled in Moose Jaw Thursday morning and it sets out a series of 21 priorities.

Moose Jaw Police Chief Terry Coleman says education is only one aspect of the strategy. "Education is a huge part... but its not the total part. It wraps around that prevention pillar that we talk about and you'll see that it shows up several times in the priorities that we talk about. At some point it will require some enforcement to stop the supply here but education can help to reduce the demand."

The Five Hills Health Region, the Moose Jaw Police Service, as well as numerous government and community agencies are all working together on this project that will continue to develop as the years go by.
