Moose Jaw is the birthplace of a new world record holder in the speed skating world.

Graeme Fish broke a world record and won gold in the men's 10-thousand metres in the opening event of the second day of the World Single Distances Championships at the Utah Olympic Oval.

He skated to a time of 12 minutes, 33.868 seconds, which was 11.14 seconds faster than teammate Ted-Jan Bloemen in second place. He broke Bloemen's world record by about 2.5 seconds.

Fish also won a bronze Thursday in the 5,000 metre race.
