Dale McBain has given notice of two motions he plans on introducing next week to get the Multiplex wheels in motion.

Moose Jaw Mayor Dale McBain has introduced two motions relating to the multiplex project and trying to get the project started.

After a closed door planning meeting Monday afternoon, McBain introduced a motion to form a steering committee to tackle some of the tough issues the city faces with the project. The committee would be made up of the mayor, a few members of council, city administration, and four members of the community.

The other motion was for city administration to begin the site selection process including environmental testing in the downtown area to see if there are any contaminated sites due to old fueling stations. Measurements will also be taken at the proposed locations to see if there is even enough room for the massive project.

But what about the application for provincial funding due at the end of the month?

"I believe that the Parks and Rec. Department will bring that application back to us on Monday and we're looking at funding on the complete project. You can always down size from that but you can't up size so I think the key is to put in for as large of project as we think is going to be the case."

That would be the vision of the multiplex builders that includes a hockey arena, curling rink, soccer pitch, and walking track.

Council will discuss and vote on the motions next Monday when they meet at 6:30.
