After the Battle of Ridgeway in 1866, many Canadian soldiers felt their efforts were overlooked by the government.

Norma Richardson, spokesperson for the Moose Jaw Royal Canadian Legion explained how Decoration Day came about, "People started protesting and lobbying the government and they went out and started decorating these veteran's graves."

The Legion will be hosting events including the laying of Canadian flags on the grave sites of all veterans in all three Moose Jaw cemeteries, and encourage the public to come out and join in over the course of the day.

A ceremony at the Crescent Park Cenotaph, and a parade are also among the Decoration Day events happening in Moose Jaw.
