Three constables with the Moose Jaw Police Service received Valour Awards from the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police (SACP) last month.

Receiving the awards were Cst. Aaron Woods, Cst. Jacques Geyer and Cst. Alanna Coghill.

The Valour Award is given out to officers that displayed a “distinguished act of bravery, in the preservation of the lives of others”.

“They do it without expecting recognition. They just do it because it's part of what they do, and so it's nice to be able to recognize it a little more formally and publicly when they engage in those sorts of activities,” said SACP president and Moose Jaw Police Chief Rick Bourassa.

The three constables attended to a fire where the house was fully engulfed in flames. They worked with the Moose Jaw Fire Department to safely remove a child through a window.

Meanwhile, police officers and firefighters were able to safely remove an unresponsive adult from the burning building and perform CPR.

“They put themselves in harm's way, and that's just what we do and so they were recognized for that by our chiefs association,” Bourassa said.
