Moose Javians have stepped up in a big way, volunteering to act as hosts for visiting teams participating in the 2023 World Para Ice Hockey Championships.

Charlene Luffman is one of the hosts for Team Czechia.

"We're just available on the phone if they need anything," she explained. "We go to the rink, we're cheering them on as they're playing. If they have any questions in regards to any of our facilities or necessities in town. We've also picked up some tourism information and trying to share that with them too so they can experience Moose Jaw."

Deb Gibson is also helping out with the team. She says they've been spending a lot of time watching the action at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

"They've shared jerseys with us and given us a flag so we can cheer them on," she said. "I just find it really awe-inspiring. They're so courageous."

Charlene encourages Moose Javians to check out some of the hard-hitting action during the tournament, which wraps up on Sunday.

"Tonight's a huge game between Canada and the U.S," she noted. "I just would love to see a lot more people out to experience this. The athleticism, the stories behind these athletes. It's just incredible and remarkable to watch them. The speed and the physicality. You have to come out to really see it."

Carlene revealed Team Czechia has invited her and Deb to spend the day with them at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park.

There are three games scheduled for Wednesday: China takes on Germany at 11 a.m., Italy faces Norway at 3 p.m, and Canada and the U.S. square off at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at sasktix.ca or at the Moose Jaw Events Centre Box Office.
