The Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association (MJMHA) honoured a former player on Saturday afternoon by presenting a scholarship.

Jacob King – a recent MJMHA graduate was the recipient of the 2021-2022 minor hockey scholarship and was presented with a $500 check by an executive member of the association’s board Cortney Lacelle.

King played three years for the Moose Jaw U18 AA Warriors and was named captain in his final season – so it seemed fitting that the presentation was made at their home opener on Saturday afternoon at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

King moved to Moose Jaw in 2016 from Calgary and played six years with the MJMHA. Jacob moved to Regina this year and is attending the U of R taking Human Kinetics as his undergrad to get into Chiropractic school.

He graduated from Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw last June with a 98 per cent average.

The minor hockey association says that his years of playing and his schooling is what went into the MJMHA selecting King to be the recipient of this year's scholarship.

Moose Jaw minor hockey has two $500 scholarships that are awarded annually to selected minor hockey players who are graduating and are heading to any Canadian post-secondary education.

Anyone that is graduating may apply for the scholarship as long as they meet the requirements laid out in the application.

The requirements include your residence in the MJMHA area, a minimum of three years playing in minor hockey at the U15 and U18 levels, having spent three years in a Moose Jaw high school while graduating grade 12, and moving on to a Canadian post-secondary school.
