The Western Major Baseball League (WMBL) regular season begins Thursday night (June 1), and Grant Westmoreland is hoping this year plays out differently than the previous two.

The third-year veteran has yet to make the WMBL playoffs, as the Miller Express fell short in 2015 and 2016. He's only had a few days to practice with his 2017 teammates, but he likes what sees.

"If you look at the roster, we only have one guy under six (feet tall)," says Westmoreland, a 22-year old from Pearland, TX. "'We're a big team, ready to hit some 'bombs' and get some wins too."

A starting pitcher for the Miller Express previously, the 22-year old, who is a pitcher/designated hitter with the University of Houston-Victoria, says he's going to be a "reliever/first baseman/outfielder" this season for Moose Jaw.

And, he's thrilled to be back for another taste of baseball, and life, in the Friendly City.

"First of all I love the game," he said, adding "Secondly, the people here are so nice it makes you want to come back."

The Miller Express are in Swift Current to play the 57s Thursday night, and will be back at home for games against Weyburn Friday (June 2) and Regina on Saturday. Both games start at 7:00 p.m. at Ross Wells Park.
