Saskatchewan will be in the spotlight Saturday afternoon as the Robyn Silvernagle rink hits the ice in the opening draw at Mosaic Place. Stefanie Lawton has been in this position before, as the Saskatchewan skip in the 2015 Scotties in Moose Jaw. Lawton, now the third for Silvernagle, brings that history to the team.

“I think just having experience as playing at the Scotties, I just bring it to the team and bring up some of the challenges that I’ve been through before, what to expect and what not to expect,” said Lawton. “These girls have a lot of experience being on tour and everywhere else.”

Jessie Hunkin, at second and Kara Thevenot at lead round out the team, with alternate Stephanie Schmidt and coach, Moose Jaw’s own Pat Simmons. Lawton remembers the adrenline rush of playing for Saskatchewan the last time the Scotties were in Moose Jaw, as a total of over 70,000 curling fans attended that event

“You walk onto that ice, and everybody cheers, it’s very exciting and it’s a wonderful feeling to have that support behind us,” she said. “We’re definitely going to embrace that.” The Silvernagle rink plays New Brunswick in their opening match at 1:30 Saturday. Their round robin continues with matches against Canada and Nunavut Sunday, Alberta Monday, Quebec and Manitoba Tuesday and then Northern Ontario in their last round robin match Wednesday evening.
