The Briercrest Christian Academy (BCA), College, and Seminary just west of Moose Jaw in Caronport, has rolled out some new initiatives with the goal to attract more international students.

The institute has several resources to assist international students in areas such as learning English, travel, care, academic supports, and many others, as well as new initiatives being created.

Under the leadership of Angela Lim, Director of International Students, several resources are being enhanced and others have been created:

  • The existing English+ program is being expanded to include CFR levels A1-2 allowing students to start at a beginner's level of English.

  • English for Academic Purposes offers English and academic instruction to help international students meet the language proficiency requirements needed to begin studies at Briercrest College & Seminary.

  • The Briercrest Christian Academy International Plan encompasses three arms of support: Travel, Care, and Academics, setting them up for success both in transit and in residence at BCA.

  • PHA or BESA will assist in the modified Travel and Care plans for students enrolled in partnership with their academies. Other BCA students will have devoted support systems implemented by BCA staff.

Timothy Lenko, Copywriter for Briercrest says that in the 2021-2022 school year 10 per cent of the Briercrest Christian Academy student body were international students, a ratio that is typical. He added that Briercrest College and Briercrest Seminary both had lower than usual international numbers due to the pandemic.

These new initiatives, English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in particular, are designed to help grow the international student population.

Don Taylor, Provost of Briercrest Christian Academy, College & Seminary says international students have enriched the community of all three Briercrest schools for most of our history.

“Our team’s efforts to resource international students for their educational experience has always been a priority and with these updates to our support plans, we are in an even better position to set them up for success,” says Taylor.

Briercrest is a Canadian Christ-centred, Bible-anchored, and ministry-focused community that includes a high school, college and seminary. The schools share a commitment to training students to seek the kingdom of God, to be shaped profoundly by the Scriptures, and to be formed spiritually and intellectually for lives of service.
