It’s a big weekend for the Sheep Industry.

The 2019 All Canada Sheep Classic is being held this weekend at the Humboldt Uniplex.

Megan Kroes and her husband farm in the Harris area and run both Sheep and Cattle.

She has a flock of 250 ewes running both purebred and commercials in the Harris are raising Polled Dorset, Romanov, and Canadian Arcotts.

Kroes says with the drought they decided to sell off some cattle and keep the sheep noting that since the rains things have been improving.

“The pastures are really looking up, hayland is looking up. A lot of the hayland it’s already kind of set how much there’s going to be, but there’s going to be hay now whereas earlier there it was pretty depressing.”

Kroes is also a Director with the Saskatchewan Sheep Development Board and says it’s going to be a great show in Humboldt and a big weekend for producers.

“We’ll be showing both purebred and commercial sheep breeds. We are expecting about 550 sheep coming from across the country. So, it’s a big sheep show and we’re definitely looking forward to it.”

She says there’s something for everyone to enjoy from the sheep shows, to the stock dog demo, shearing demonstrations, wool handling and more.

The Grasslands Canadian Classic Purebred Show goes Saturday morning at 10, Sunday at 9 am is the Junior Show, the Grasslands Sheep Exhibition Commercial Sale goes at 11 am with the Grasslands Canadian Classic 2019 Purebred Sale Sunday at 12 o’clock.
