A winter storm that slammed into the southern United States is being felt here in Moose Jaw as some produce prices double overnight.

He's seen it all before.

Cold snaps in California and Texas and the price of fruit and vegetables go up, way up in some cases. It's happening again as frozen orchards and market gardens in the U.S try to recover from the storm last week. The price of lettuce and celery is up this week and it’s the same thing for oranges, lemons and limes.

Wayne Sannis buys fresh food for his downtown Moose Jaw restaurant every day and he's paying a high price for romaine lettuce this week. "I've got Caesar salad on my menu and when you come in as a customer and you want Cesar Salad you expect to get Caesar Salad. But the customer that goes to the grocery store is smart and if the price is to high they just don't buy it. Pretty soon what that will do is dictate what they can charge for this stuff because when people quit buying it it's going to start rotting in the warehouses, and when its rotting in the warehouses the gotta get rid of it so the prices will come down."

Sannis says Florida has been spared so far this winter so, there are some fruits and veggies that are still reasonably prices all you have to do is watch the price and check the quality.
