The Moose Jaw Chinese Community Network is hosting a Lantern Festival Gala Saturday night at the Grant Hall Hotel.

The event starts with a cash bar at 5pm, with a buffet open from 6pm to 7:30pm. There will also be live entertainment by the Saskatoon Chinese Dance Club.

The Chinese Lantern Festival marks the end of the Lunar New Year celebrations.

"The Grant Hall Hotel now is decorated with red lanterns throughout that part of the building," said Kelvin Hu, president of the Moose Jaw Chinese Community Network. "We typically have some greetings words written in red paper and then we stick that on the door...It's almost like two lines from a poem, which expresses peoples' greetings and good wishes for each other for the coming new year."

Tickets are available at the Grant Hall Hotel (306-691-2113), Jade Garden, or the Delight Café & Wok. The cost is $80 each or $620 for a corporate table of eight.

The Moose Jaw Chinese Community Network is also looking for sponsors for the event. Those interested can phone 1-236-866-9818 (Yeng) or email:

Donations are also being accepted for door prizes, as well as monetary donations, which will be used to cover the cost of out-of-town performers.
