Grain markets over the last few months have been very volatile. Professor Ken Rosaasen with the U of S says the price range has been really wild, "Whether were talking prices of crops like canoal or wheat or durum the price range of the last 18 months have been really, really wild, almost unprecedented." Rosaasen says producers are continuing to pay attention to the markets, "Producers are looking at how well it's moving and what the profit potential looks like and they're sort of going with their acreage's intentions."

Rosaasen admits producers are still facing a lot of challenges here in Saskatchewan, "Part of the thing is looking forward, deciding when to pull the trigger perhaps on pricing some of your inputs, perhaps on pricing some of your potential outputs or even some of it in the bin might not even be priced yet either." Rosaasen adds producers should know how the wheat board's pricing system works and they should also know what other options they have.
