NDP announce $100 million for cultural and recreational facilities in their Mid Year Report, but how much will come to Moose Jaw?

A significant announcement for the City of Moose Jaw as the province has announced 100 million dollars for the Building Communities program.

A program that could provide some much needed funding for the local multiplex project according to Moose Jaw North MLA Glenn Hagel. "The Building Communities Program will be of particular interest to Moose Jaw. Moose Jaw had a strong endorsement of City Council's proposal in the recent election and the Building Communities Program will be helpful for projects like Moose Jaw's and others similar to it around the province of Saskatchewan."

When it comes to how much Moose Jaw could receive is still unknown, but Mayor Dale McBain is optimistic especially since the NDP recently announced 402 million dollars in extra revenues for 2006. "The glimmer of hope is there and I think those kinds of surplus may not always be around and they don’t lend themselves to long term, ongoing funding but they do lend themselves to the one time thing that we are looking for."

Needless to say Builder's Co-chair Ray Boughen will be paying close attention to the program and is hoping they can get some type of monetary commitment in the near future. "We have to put forward out best foot in terms of suggesting that the government would like to be partners with us in funding this project. We said from the get go that the project would include the federal government, the provincial government, the municipality, and the private sector so certainly I think this announcement allows the provincial government to take a fairly strong stand in the project."

How much Moose Jaw will received, if anything has yet to be announced but its expected that 20 million dollars will be awarded this year from the program.
