Weed control is always a key part of farming and for many producers it's been a bad year for dandelions. The key challenge is knowing when to spray in order to get the best control.

Weed Scientist Rene Van Acker, says his research has shown the best time to control dandelions is the fall, "In the fall if you've got a really big problem, spray 2 4-D or any thing systemic, any sort of systemic herbicide work fairly well and even at relatively low rates and even after a minor frost."

That doesn't mean we have to wait until fall to get rid of those weeds, "If you have a real problem now, do the best you can but don't forget if you really have a problem and really want to do something about that problem than don't forget and this fall go and do something about it."

If you do spray now, you should do it again in the fall as well to get a more efficient kill.
