A chairperson has now been selected for the binding arbitration process as the City of Moose Jaw and the local Firefighters Association try to get a new contract.

The Moose Jaw Firefighters Association and the City of Moose Jaw now have a chairperson for their binding arbitration.

The local association and the city have been trying to work out a new contract for months with wages the big stumbling block.

Association President, firefighter Bill Howes tells us what the current situation is. "The chair that's been appointed is Arnie Paus-Jenssen and he's from Saskatoon. I guess his job is to sit at the hearing and listen to both sides and try to come up with a settlement with the two nominees of both sides and that will be the binding arbitration."

This is the last option for the Association as they have a no strike clause in their contract with the city and job action is not an option.
