The new crop report from Saskatchewan Agriculture has more than 85 per cent of crops listed in good condition. And,  it's close to harvest time for the earlier maturing crops. Grant McLean says some combines could be out next week.

Of course, most farmers are fighting slow crop development, "I think ten days to about two weeks behind where we would normally expect to at this time of year."

McLean says producers could use a little rain and more heat, "What we would really like to see is mid to high twenties, which I think we're projected to get in the coming week and that should certainly help to move the crop along and if we got a little rain with that, that would really be a bonus."

Topsoil moisture has dropped sharply in the past week. Grasshopper damage is the main concern, with gophers causing problems as well.
