Moose Jaw city employees were honoured this week for their long time dedication to their job and the community.

The City of Moose Jaw presented its long time service awards at a special banquet last night.

Ken Deans of the Moose Jaw Fire Department was the longest serving city employee honoured for his 35 years of service, with only 6 sick days in total. "I don't know that it’s a personal achievement. Some would say lucky others would say a blessing and I would say a blessing."

Following the awards a special achievement award was presented to one city employee displaying a commitment to Moose Jaw above and beyond their normal job.

This year it went to firefighter Gordon Hewitt for organizing the Fire Fighters Challenge held in Moose Jaw this summer. "I definitely appreciate it and it’s nice that they appreciate what we did. It was a lot of work that went into it and it really does promote fitness within the department and comradery when we work in such a team environment."

Hewitt is currently working on bringing the national finals to Moose Jaw for 2008.
