Moose Jaw city council has approved a request from the Moose Jaw Homegrown Farmer's Market to sell alcohol for off-site consumption on the 400 Block of Langdon Crescent on Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm from May 27th to October 7, 2023.

The request was approved by city council on Monday night.

"This would be for a permit to sell alcohol, not for consumption on-site, so not your typical beer garden. It would be for a craft-type vendor to sell their products at the farmer's market," explained director of parks and recreation Derek Blais. "Municipal approval is required before they can go through their permit process with the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming (Authority)."

The City of Moose Jaw Alcohol Use Events Policy does not specifically mention alcohol sales permits for off-site consumption, therefore city council approval is required. City administration will be reviewing the Alcohol Use Event Policy in 2023 to ensure policies and procedures are developed for these types of requests moving forward.

It's estimated that 200 people attend the Moose Jaw Homegrown Farmer's Market every Saturday.
